With a combination of swaying palm trees, pristine beaches, and colorful abodes, Dominican Republic features a pleasant lifestyle. Sharing the island of Hispaniola with Haiti, the country offers a tropical paradise for both visitors and residents.

The diverse geography that ranges from beautiful mountains to lush green forests to semi-desert areas combine together to create a joyful and unique experience for travelers who want a break from their work routine.

So, without further ado, let’s take a virtual tour of the best places in this mesmerizing country.

The Top 3 Main Attractions in the Dominican Republic

Having a glance at this breathtaking country, one can admit that it would be worth visiting. However, if you’re a little constrained on the budget and have less time, I’ve made a list of the places that you shouldn’t miss out on.

1. The Beach of Punta Cana

Located in the eastern wing of the country, Punta Cana is a prime holiday destination. It’s the ideal place if you’re looking forward to spending a chill weekend at the all-inclusive resorts.

The quality of beaches is the primary reason why tourists choose the Dominican Republic as their favorite destination. The Bavaro Beach happens to be the most impressive stretch of beach in the city and is a must-visit place.

In addition to that, several other fun activities can make the trip exciting and thrilling. These activities include reef exploring, catamaran sailing, and a visit to Sirenis, a huge water park.

2. The Zona Colonial of Santo Domingo

Santo Domingo is claimed to be the first place where Christopher Columbus set foot in the Americas. Even though it is a quite modern city, the Zona Colonial, a beautiful historic center, makes the place stand out from the rest.

Wonderful pastel-colored buildings, colorful hanging baskets in cobblestone streets, and restored mansions combine together to make Santo Domingo the heartbeat of the Dominican Republic.

3. The Underwater Caverns

Located at a distance of about five miles from the city center, the Three Eyes National Park or the Parque Nacional Los Tres Ojos is one of the top tourist spots in the Dominican Republic. The ancient caverns that were used for refuge and rituals once accommodate 4 lakes that are fed by an underground river.

The cold, crystal clear waters of the lagoons are surrounded by majestic stalagmites and stalactites, which makes it a magnificent geological masterpiece. However, the cave that is the farthest can be accessed only via a small hand-pulled raft.

Conclusion

Whether it’s a historical capital city, a delicious and unforgettable cuisine, or a hangout at a breathtaking beach, Dominican Republic has it all. With all that is said and done, Dominican Republic has proven that it is far more than a perfect holiday destination. I have for sure added it to my bucket list, have you?
